Welcome to the Pedagogues Golf Society
The idea of schoolmasters meeting for golf in the summer holidays, without the boys, was first mooted in 1975. This finally came to fruition in 1977, the first Annual Meeting was held at Marlborough with Malcolm Hardstaff managing the details (as became the custom for many years to come). The Pedagogues Golf Society was born and continues in similar vein to this day – still very much a foursomes society. There has been an Annual Meeting every year since, except for 2020 when the pandemic forced closures of schools and golf courses. It took a little while for the first matches to start, but in 1981 there were three, with the first ever being versus Denham GC (lost 3½ – 4½). We now have a fixture list of twelve matches, annual tours to West Wales and North Norfolk, President’s Day in early June and, of course, the Annual Meeting each August which takes place over 3 days. Membership is still very much the preserve of men and women who are schoolteachers, or have been at some point.
