Pedagogues Norfolk Tour

Replacing Hunstanton for Royal Norwich GC on the first day of the tour proved a very popular decision. Playing for the ‘Wobbly Man’, the youthful but ambitious parkland course played well and made for a great competition with only 6 points separating first from last. The winners, with 41 points, were the formidable Dai and Emma Bader, edging out Charlie Baggs and Geoffrey Boult.

Day two saw us head to Sheringham GC for our match against the club, which was fiercely competitive. A 4 ½ – 3 ½ loss reflects the monumental tussle that took place on the magnificent course with greens that Dai described as ‘the best winter greens he has ever played on.’

Finally, we headed to Royal West Norfolk GC at Brancaster and, after a short queue on the beach road due to a tidal surge, played out a match that will live long in everyone’s memory. Frustratingly and coincidentally, at 4 ½ to 3 ½, we fell agonisingly short again.

However, in both cases we did exactly what was required to be invited back next year, while being able to take the moral victory of being the away side on both days.

The company was excellent, the golf spectacular, and Norfolk resplendent! The most remarkable thing was that for 3 days, not an umbrella was unfurled, and most will have headed home sunburnt from the final few holes on each day.
